With almost 500 playing in the busiest annual Catalina Classic to date, Catalina Club’s 27-hole golf course came to life on the last weekend of October. Playing with determination and competitive spirit, hundreds of golfers from as far as the Northern Territory competed in Friday’s two-person Ambrose, the Saturday Stableford and Sunday’s Medley Irish Teams event.

To elevate our visiting and member golfers’ games, Friday also saw the annual ‘Festival of Golf’ return to the course, allowing visitors to discover and sample the latest apparel and equipment from premium golf brands like Mizuno, Wilson, Srixon, Titleist and more.

Myrna Radin claimed the best mixed pair score on Friday’s two-person Ambrose event.

Under sunny skies, the Friday competition in the men’s section were local pair Robert Norton and Layton Brant who delivered a great score of ten under par, netting back to 61.25 to win from Trent Cooksley of Russell Vale Golf Club and Kareela Golf Club’s Graeme Moore.

Catalina Club Captain Michael Lowe recorded the ultimate achievement amidst the competition, gaining his first hole in one on the 7th hole.

For the Ladies division, Louise Shaw and Deborah Timmins of Woolooware in Sydney took home the top prize from Sueanne Sutherland and Robyn Maxted, also from Woolooware.

Meanwhile, best of the mixed pairs was another local pair, Tony Riches and Myrna Radin who narrowly edged out Bruce and Marg Dickinson.

Saturday’s event saw players compete in an Individual Stableford across 18 holes, with scoring close in most grades. In the men’s A Grade, Brian Lukins from Woolooware Golf Club took home the title, while Catalina’s very own Barrie Ennis scored the B Grade title.

In the ladies’ field, Tracey Arnold flew the flag for Woolooware, while Carmel Payn from Hurstville Golf Club won the B Grade title.

With the sun shining on yet another jam-packed day of golf on Sunday, 144 players took to Catalina’s Old Course for a Medley Irish Teams event where the two best scores on each hole were recorded toward the team score. The winners of the day were Carol-Anne & Shunsuke Fukushima, Shona Choy and Elizabeth Bamber from The Coast Golf Club in Sydney with a great score of 102 points in total.
