John scores for his age at the NSW Senior Amateur in Tamworth
At the age of 72, John Neeson was able to receive a score of just that at the NSW Senior Championships at Tamworth & Longyard Golf Club in March 2024.
Having not ever played or seen the course, John was at a disadvantage, which were barely noticeable in his first two rounds of 77 and 75 on day one.
With temperatures above 30 degrees and high humidity, John was able to gradually acclimatise and kick off his final day of play with success. Just four shots from the leader at 72, John was leading the over 70’s division.
John came away from the event in 38th place in a field of 132 players, many of whom were aged between 50 and 70. Ultimately, John’s win placed him as the best in the state for septuagenarians.
