Senior Open crowns winner with six-shot lead at Catalina Club

Under inclement skies on the Kings Birthday long weekend, Catalina Club held the 2025 Senior Open, with Royal Canberra Golf Club’s Andrew Marsh taking the men’s title with a commanding six-shot lead and a successful playoff against Andrew Bond. Following closely was Michael Carter and Milan Manojlovic.
Day two of the competition began with extremely cold and rainy conditions, making scoring difficult across the field. Andrew Bond handled the conditions well with a great 75 to equal the total of Andrew Marsh, who added an 83 to his 72 in the first round. In the playoff, Marsh drained a 20-footer on the first playoff hole which Bond was unable to match.
In the ladies section it was Jane Wall from Kiama who showed the field how it was done. Under testing conditions, Jane shot rounds of 80 and 78 to take the Senior Open Ladies title by nine shots from Mollymook Golf Club’s Karen Bashford. Catalina Club’s very own Marg Dickinson finished a further two behind Karen in third place.

In the nett sections, Gerard Dempsey claimed A Grade with a total of 146 nett, just a single shot in front of the two Andrew’s who played off for the scratch title. B Grade in the men’s was taken by local member Tim Shilton who narrowly tipped out fellow Catalina Club member John Rogan by a single shot.
The ladies nett award was taken by another Mollymook Golf Club member, Penelope Paterson, who had two great scores of 69 and 71 nett to win by three shots from Catalina member Helen Neave.
Congratulations to all 108 competitors who played Catalina Club from 21 clubs across New South Wales and the ACT for the 2025 Senior Open.
