Peard Claims Catalina Club Championship in Breakthrough Performance.
In changeable conditions, that included persistent rain and a short suspension of play, 15-year-old Emma Peard produced a composed and courageous final round to claim her first Catalina Ladies Club Championship title.
Entering the final day, last year’s winner Bronte Eppelstun held a three-shot lead over both Peard and Marg Dickinson and appeared in control as the leading trio reached the closing holes. Chasing a third consecutive championship, Eppelstun remained steady through 15 holes before Peard delivered a remarkable finish under pressure.
Showing maturity well beyond her years, Emma played her final three holes in 1-under par, striking a series of exceptional shots to close out the championship and continue the rise of Catalina’s next generation of talent.
Already a two-time A Grade Nett Champion and recent Ladies Foursomes winner alongside Marg Dickinson, Peard’s latest achievement further highlights the strength of Catalina’s junior development program. Dickinson finished runner-up in this year’s championship after another consistent performance.
B Grade honours went to Alison Lee, who overturned a one-shot deficit in the final round to win by six shots from Alison Lancaster. Margaret Shepherd claimed the B Grade Nett Championship following a strong closing round of 76 nett, finishing ahead of Sue Demamiel.
C Grade delivered another close contest, with Susan Bourke fighting back from four shots behind to claim victory from Sandra McCamley. In the C Grade Nett division, Lyn Pellow’s consistency across all three rounds saw her finish six shots clear of Sonya Dohnt.
A championship defined by resilience, composure, and the continued emergence of Catalina’s next generation.
