A life of golf, leadership and friendship: Dawn Scott’s story
Catalina Club Life Member Dawn Scott continues to be recognised as one of the Club’s greatest contributors. In 2026, her legacy is not forgotten, as her donated Ladies Open trophy is awarded to a new annual champion.
Some club stories are measured in years. Others are measured in the people whose influence continues long after they have moved on.
Dawn Scott has been part of the Catalina story since 1978, becoming one of the Club’s most significant female golfing leaders.
After a few short years as a lady member, Dawn joined the Ladies Committee in 1985, and served as the Vice Captain, Captain and President over 15 years. In 2001, Dawn was given the prestigious honour of receiving a Life Membership, and in 2002, became the first female Catalina Club Captain.
Her contribution to Catalina was about more than titles. It was about leadership, participation and the friendships that grow through golf and club life.
In 2006, Dawn moved from Batemans Bay to Victoria and joined Horsham Golf Club, where she continued her involvement in golf, becoming its Vice-Captain.
Three years later, Horsham Golf Club was devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires on 7 February 2009. The clubhouse and around 90 per cent of the course’s vegetation were destroyed, along with the Club’s trophy collection.
For Dawn, the loss was personal. For Catalina’s Ladies Team, it was an opportunity to show that club connections can travel far beyond the boundaries of a course.
Working with Dawn, the Catalina Ladies Team donated two new trophies to Horsham Golf Club, helping rebuild a small but important part of the Club’s sporting tradition.
The first was a trophy for the annual Ladies Foursomes Championship, a two-day, 36-hole event, donated by the Catalina Ladies Team. The second was a Silver Cup for the Aggregate Par Competition, donated by the Catalina Veteran Ladies Team.
But the story did not end there.
In return, Dawn continued the connection by sponsoring a beautiful silver trophy for Catalina’s Ladies Open, the Catalina Club Challenge Bowl.
The Challenge Bowl is awarded for a one-day Ladies Team Event played as a four-stroke event, creating a lasting reminder of Dawn’s connection to Catalina and the friendships forged through women’s golf.
Today, Dawn lives in Victoria, and continues her interest in golf at Horsham Golf Club.
From Catalina to Horsham and back again, the trophies tell a story of generosity, friendship and belonging.
They are tangible reminders that the relationships built through a golf club can endure across decades, distances and even devastating circumstances.
Dawn’s story is part of Catalina’s history, but it is also part of its living legacy.
A life in golf. A legacy at Catalina. A friendship that continues to be played out on the fairways.
