Alex Booth claims 2025 Batemans Bay Open title

Alex Booth has won the 2025 Club Car Batemans Bay Open title by three shots.

Sunday saw Catalina Club host the biggest open event on the 2025 calendar. The Batemans Bay Open attracted a capacity field of 220 golfers from 39 clubs across the state from Friday 2 May to Sunday 4 May.

Claiming the 2025 title was Catalina Club’s very own junior member, 16-year-old Alex Booth, who secured a three-shot victory from Goulburn’s Noah Bricknell.

On the first day of competition, players experienced ample sunshine and perfect playing conditions after a stretch of soaked, cloudy days. Course superintendent Darcy and his team worked meticulously to enhance the course for some of the region’s best competitors.

In Friday’s Medley 2BBB Stableford, it was Richmond Golf Club pair Hayden Carver and Hayden Aitkins with 48 points who took the major prize from another Richmond pair, David Evans and Stephen Burdekin on 46. In total, 39 visiting players from Richmond Golf Club descended upon Catalina Club for the event, increasing their chances of success.

During the first round of competition on Saturday, ideal conditions returned, allowing Royal Canberra Golf Club’s David Irvine to secure the best score of the weekend of 68. Alex Booth and Bill Eppelstun closely followed Irvine with respective scores of 69 and 71, establishing themselves for a successful tournament result.

In B grade, Grant Scott from the Murrumbidgee Golf Club secured 39 points – just two shots ahead of four others on 37 points, while in C grade, Catalina Club’s Travis Fairweather tallied 39 points to take a three-shot margin into the final round.

Kickstarting the final day of competition, Irvine was unfortunately unable to match his first round efforts, and shot 75 points, while Eppelstun managed an even par 72 to post a 36-hole total of -1, and Bricknell backing up his first round with 70 to lead the field in the afternoon.

Rob Devonald defeated Grant Scott on a countback to secure the B grade title in the Bay Open.

Meanwhile, Booth continued his campaign in the afternoon field, beginning well with some birdies on holes 10 and 12, but a few bogies saw him post one-under and take a two-stroke lead into the back nine. More birdies on holes 1, 3 and 5 gave him a large buffer from the field, and aside from some late nervous bogies, he signed for a two-under score of 70, to finish the competition five under and take home $1,000 in winnings. At 16 years of age, Alex’s achievement is testament to his dedication and patience to improving his game at Catalina Club.

Alex Booth celebrated a career-launching win at Catalina Club following his persuasive win at the 2025 Batemans Bay Open.

In B grade, Catalina Club member Rob Devonald beat the round one leader, Grant Scott, on a countback with 76 points. In C grade, Travis Fairweather posted the day’s best score with 40 points to comfortably win the 36-hole title with 79 points.
