From October 17 to 19, Catalina’s course welcomed a full field for the 2025 Ladies Open, with more than 20 different clubs represented across the three days.

With perfect weather conditions, the ladies kicked off the tournament with a Canadian Foursomes event, seeing Kiama Golf Club’s Gail Pottenger and Rhiannan Harvey from Links Shell Cove take the A Grade Gross title with a great score of 76. In B Grade, Catalina members Julie Gercken and Deborah Buchanan took out the Gross title from another local pair, Sonya Dohnt and Barbara Best. In the nett section, Kiama duo Sharon Casson and Kellie Light claimed the top prize from Kristie Hungerford and Beau Mitchell.

Sage Laird of St Michael’s Golf Club placed as runner up behind Eppelstun, just five shots behind the leader.

When the sun rose on Saturday morning, strong scores were recorded quickly after the 9:00am shotgun. The day saw Catalina Club Champion Bronte Eppelstun post a strong score of 74 to take a two-stroke lead over Club legend, Marg Dickinson, while the 2024 Ladies Open Champion, Jane Wall of Kiama, just two shots adrift on 78.

Heading into Sunday, Bronte was confident in her chances. After a shaky start, she delivered ten pars and two birdies in her final 12 holes to win the 2025 title comfortably from another young golfer, Sage Laird of St Michael’s Golf Club.

Bronte shot back-to-back scores of 74, helping her to finish five shots in front of Sage, with Jane Wall finishing in third place.

In the A Grade Nett competition, Trish Swan from Kiama snuck home by one shot from Jodie Harvey, with Trish Noel behind in third place.

In the Stableford event for B and C Grades, Kim Parsons, also representing Kiama in B Grade, took home the title with a great total of 75 points across two days of play. C Grade saw the best Stableford score recorded by Trady Howarth of Bermagui, winning by two points from Kiama’s Kelly Light.

For the first time in 2025, the Catalina Ladies Open saw a full field, with a diverse range of competitors from across the state. Keep an eye out for more Catalina Club tournaments.
