Across three days of golf in April, three local juniors joined their South East Sports Academy (SESA) at the Regional Academy Games to represent their region.
The Regional Academy Games bring together thousands of under 18’s from across New South Wales in a number of sports including netball, basketball, hockey, triathlon and golf. Catalina Club was well represented, with junior members Lachie Booth, Emma Peard and Jasper Schryver all involved in this annual event which was held in Tamworth.
The event comprised of a 36 Hole Stroke Play event to determine the Individual Academy Games Champion. From these scores the combined scores from athletes in each team made up the team total.
Lachie had consistent scores of 80 and 81, Emma 82 and 91 and Jasper 89 and 84. While all battled at times, they equally delivered great golf on an unfamiliar golf course.

After Day 2, the SESA squad found themselves on top of the team standings, which was no mean feat in itself across the 12 academies. In the Matchplay on Sunday, it was the top five players from each academy that played a 9-hole match. Being in the top 5, Lachie was the only Catalina Junior that qualified for the Matchplay.
After a three month break due to injury, Lachie was not able to replicate the Strokeplay form and unfortunately went down in his Match against his Sydney Metro North opponent.
In the end, the team went down 4/1 and just missed out on qualifying for the Regional Academy Final held later that day.
It is events like this that give our Juniors that next level of experience both in Stroke play on different courses, as well as in Matchplay.
The Juniors’ attention will now turn to the Club Championships at Catalina, and to the NSW Junior Championships held jointly in winter between Catalina Club and Moruya Golf Club.
