Community unites for inaugural Legacy & Lions Charity Day at Catalina
In 2026, Lions Batemans Bay and Legacy Batemans Bay joined forces on the course at Catalina Club to raise funds for the local charity dedicated to improving lives of those affected by conflict.
Perfect winter weather and a capacity field combined to make the inaugural Legacy Australia and Lions Club of Batemans Bay Charity Golf Day a resounding success at Catalina Club on Sunday 21 June 2026.
For many years, both organisations have hosted their own fundraising golf events. In 2026, the decision was made to bring the two causes together, creating a larger community event capable of delivering an even greater impact. Judging by the response, the decision was well justified.
A full field of 112 golfers took to the course, supported by an army of volunteers who helped create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. From the barbecue running through the morning and afternoon, to the activity and camaraderie around the course, the event reflected the very best of community spirit.

Most importantly, the day brought together golfers, sponsors, volunteers and supporters in a shared commitment to organisations that continue to make a meaningful difference to local families and the wider community.
The golf itself was played in excellent spirit and produced a closely contested finish.
The major prize was claimed by a Moruya-based team comprising Mitchell Stirling, Adrian Andy, Matthew Kennedy and William Steenbergen, whose impressive score of 12-under-par saw them finish on 56.75 nett.
Less than a shot behind were Shaun Barclay, Frank Mason, Justin Haywood and Nathan Douglas, representing a combined Catalina and Canberra team, who pushed the winners all the way to the final tally.

While the Clyde Auto Group Hole-in-One prize on the 7th hole survived another year, there were several close calls that had players and spectators alike momentarily holding their breath. With strong support from across the region and discussions already underway for a return in 2027, the inaugural event has laid a strong foundation for what promises to become a valued fixture on the local golfing calendar.
